Above is the cover image of some of the strange activities going on at the site of an old broken castle.
What weird and new demonic forces walk its crumbling paths?
Amazon has a preview sample.
There are 4 of the 51 new monsters depicted above but all are illustrated.
Nice Gene!

ReplyDeleteHi, Gene! Michael/Zudrak from the boards Rob K.'s old PPP site, Dragonsfoot, and elsewhere here...
ReplyDeleteAs I said to you in a FB comment last month (before Luke G's thread was borked due to increasing drama), I was curious to see your Broken Castle ever since I had first heard of it and have since ordered and received it. I can't wait to sink my teeth into it. A cursory look at the maps and contents leads me to believe this will help my home campaign plans.
I am on my third attempt at the T series, except this time I am only using T1. T2-4 is too bloated and messy for me and I can't help but think it turned out way more complicated than necessary. (I think Frank did an admirable job getting it out the door but the internal turmoil of TSR was too much for many promised adventures and products from turning out the way Greyhawk fans had hoped (Q1, Oriental Adventures/Kara Tur, The Underdark, Shadowlands, expansions to Oerth beyond the Flanaess, etc.).)
After reading Melan/Gabor's review, I believe I will be setting the Broken Castle in the Hommlet area. I don't think that the ToEE was going to be as big as T2-4 made it, based on Gygax's other offerings of the same era (1977-1985).
Anyway, I have been enjoying your T1-inspired posts here and look forward to porting The Broken Castle into the Verbobonc area as my ToEE. I have just downloaded Amongst the Elves and look forward to reading that, too.
My only question is: Are the maps from The Broken Castle available anywhere digitally? I would like to print them in order to have them ready to reference both as I read and run the adventures.
Thanks and happy gaming,
Michael
I haven't done a digital set yet. I'm not sure how I'm going to handle the pdf exactly yet. I have to go on a short hiatus because I have a lot of family problems and am in the middle of a big move but once I get settled in (November?) I'll address the pdf.
DeleteSorry to hear about the family problems. :( As we have had our own here since last May, I can sympathize. I pray they are resolved amicably and/or as best as possible.
DeleteBest wishes and kindest regards,
Michael
I love this cover. So many nice little details. The sky is awesome.
ReplyDeleteThe painting concept was from a session where the players returned to the castle from the south through the woods instead of directly off the road from the west.
