The blue flame pooka is called such
because of the halo of fire that surrounds its body. Other pooka
types lean more towards the “water horse” category (Coming soon).
The blue flame pooka is an intelligent but capricious beast and is
usually only summoned by users of magic (See below).
Unlike other pookas, the blue flame
pooka cannot be ridden unless the rider is completely fire proof or
has fire proof magicks. Anyone touching or attacking a blue flame
pooka must save versus magic or be burnt by 2d6 magical fire damage
(Save versus magic for ½ damage). If the creature is stationary,
inanimate objects in contact with the creature must save versus fire.
When stationary, the blue flame pooka
has a mist of blue spittle spray that comes from the bubbling and
fiery blue-yellow mist arising from its muzzle and if there are any
food stuffs in range (10 foot radius) they are immediately spoiled
and inedible. Farmers know when one of these pookas has been about
their crops by planting blackberries by the ends of their fields. The
berries take on an easily recognizable dull black look. Letting them
know to leave the contents of the field until the next Spring.
The pooka attacks with very sharp but
non-canine teeth but the real fear is in their hoof attack. Their
hooves are unnaturally damaging, in contrast to natural horses, and
thus they have a siege value rating:
Siege Attack Values - Wood (4)/Earth
(1)/Soft Stone (2)/Hard Stone (1)
The pooka can also transform into a
sort of human-like creature. Large horse-like nose and a bluish sheen
on their skin gives away their human disguise. In this form, they can
wear armor and fight with human weaponry. It prefers a club that it
can ignite in one round with a blue flame delivering a massive 2-24
(2d12) damage (Save versus magic for half damage).
These creatures are at home in the
Ethereal Plane and can enter into the Prima Materia at will. They
come from where the Elemental Plane of Fire meets the Ethereal Plane.
Note: Magic-users who specialize in
fire sorceries will seek out blue flame pookas as steeds. Their
captured young will bring a princely demand of 10,000 gold pieces on
the black market.
